Design Principles

My design, themed around dreams and imagination, depicts a young girl rising from a magic lamp into a starlit, fantastical space. A mist subtly connects the lamp and the girl, creating a natural upward flow that guides the eye. Blue-green tones create a tranquil yet mysterious atmosphere, while the contrast of light and shadow highlights the subject. Through the skillful fusion of harmony, contrast, and dynamism, I achieved visual unity, fluidity, and a strong narrative in the design.

In this work, I employed several design principles to enhance the overall visual impact and narrative. First, the unified blue-green hue and soft visual style achieve harmony and unity, keeping the image consistent and dreamlike. Second, the sense of movement is conveyed through the rising and flowing mist, naturally guiding the viewer's gaze from the magic lamp upwards to the girl, creating visual guidance and a sense of dynamism. Contrast is used to emphasize the subject: the dark background contrasts sharply with the glowing magic lamp, mist, and starlight, making the focal point even more prominent.

By using repetitive elements, such as scattered stars and flowing lines, I can increase the coherence and layering of the image, thereby creating a dreamlike feeling. Overall, the design effectively connects fantasy and reality through harmonious colors, flowing lines, contrasting light and shadow, and repetitive elements, creating a captivating narrative scene that makes the viewer feel as if they have entered a dream world full of hope and imagination.(254 WORDS)

REFLECTION

1. What did I learn in this module?

In this module, I learned basic design principles such as contrast, unity, emphasis, and movement, and understood how to apply these principles to actual design. I also realized that design is not just a visual presentation, but also includes the process of preliminary analysis, conceptualization, and continuous adjustment, which gave me a more comprehensive understanding of design.

2. What did I like most?

My favorite part was the creative process in Tasks 2 and 3, especially the illustration part. Being able to transform my ideas into visual images gave me a great sense of accomplishment and made me more engaged in the creative process.

3. What did I dislike most?

What I dislike most is explaining my design in words. Sometimes, I understand that my design is reasonable, but I find it difficult to express it clearly and logically, which is a challenge for me.

4. What new self-awareness did I gain through this module?

I found that I tend to focus on one idea and continuously refine it when designing, rather than trying multiple different directions. This made me realize that exploring multiple solutions in the early stages of design is very important. Meanwhile, my design thinking has changed significantly. I now place greater emphasis on preliminary conceptualization and analysis rather than jumping straight into drawing.

5. What aspects of my learning process have changed, and what aspects have remained the same?

My design thinking and methods have changed significantly. I now focus more on preliminary analysis and conceptualization, rather than simply drawing based on intuition. However, my interest in design and drawing remains unchanged; it is still my favorite part.

6. What are my future goals?

My goal is to continue improving my design skills, not only in visual presentation but also in my thinking and expression abilities. I hope to be able to articulate my design concepts more clearly and gradually develop my own design style.
