INSTRUCTIONS
Week 1
092024 Major Project Non-UI_UX Proposal Brief
Overall, this week was mainly spent preparing slides to support my ideas. I thought a lot about what I wanted to do this week, which definitely helped get the project started.
We prepared proposals for discussion groups, including:
- Chinese Tea Culture - Lingnan Tea Culture
- Oriental Perfume - Chinese porcelain(Blue and White Porcelain)
- Noise Visualization
For each of my ideas, I tried my best to explain its value and support these ideas through research or critical thinking.

Of the three proposals from our group this week, I was primarily looking for information on perfume and blue and white porcelain.
Here are our group’s ideas and proposals for the project:

Week 2
Finally, we decided to take perfume brand as the core direction. This decision was recognized by the lecturer, who believed that perfume is not limited to a single product, but can also be extended to multiple packaging designs and product lines, such as scented candles, hand creams, shower gels, etc. These products can not only enrich the brand's market positioning, but also expand consumers' usage scenarios.
Afterwards, we will further deepen the brand concept, visual design, product scalability, etc., while maintaining the unique oriental cultural characteristics.

During this week we discussed and assigned tasks. I completed the audience target, domestic and international market analysis, the problems that need to be solved in the market, and the search for pictures and texts.

Week 3
In the early stage of perfume research, our brand goal was not clear, so we thought deeply outside of class. In the end, we established the core goal of the brand: to create a fragrance brand with the main function of relieving insomnia and anxiety.
This brand concept not only focuses on the olfactory enjoyment of fragrance, but also emphasizes its actual role in emotional healing and physical and mental relaxation. The lecturer suggested that we need to find a lot of research data to support this direction.

During this week I analyzed the presentation of our brand.

Week 4
This week, our team members drew a sketch of the brand logo for our brand "YUNRUO":

Week 5
This week, our group decided on the fragrance products to be made, drew some logos, and finally determined our final logo in class. The teacher said that we did not prepare a draft of the product packaging. We completed the content after class that day and submitted it.
We discussed and completed the draft that day. Next, we can optimize the details, such as color matching, material selection, packaging opening and closing methods, etc., to make the packaging more in line with the brand concept. Combined with the logo, make the packaging design more holistic, and consider how to integrate the logo with the packaging structure.
The following is what I personally completed after the group discussion, including the search for most of the visual reference images:

I was assigned to perfume, perfume packaging design, brochures, and fragrance test cards. I started to draw them separately.

Completion status of PPT at this stage:
This week our group started the final packaging design. I referred to some aromatherapy brand packaging and posters on the Behance website. It gave me a lot of inspiration. I was responsible for designing stickers for aromatherapy candles, perfumes, essential oils, etc. I looked at the stationery designed by the group members, and I felt that it was a bit fancy. I helped her design business cards, shopping bags and letterheads again, and found reference examples for her to make our style more unified.
Here is my design process:

I started trying to put these pictures on the model, and found that the effect was quite good.

Week 6
This week, I made some slight modifications based on the teacher's feedback in class. After the teacher's guidance, our logo has become more integrated.
After our discussion, we divided the products into two series, with different main scents, namely the orchid series and the lavender series.
Here are the parts I completed:
The main packaging sticker design after modification:

Effect after putting into the model:

The stationery design styles of our group are different, so I redesigned it, using simple text and a single flower bouquet as the main theme of the brand, making the style more unified.

FEEDBACK
WEEK 2
During the discussion, the lecturer pointed out that the direction of "Lingnan Lion Dance × Tea Culture" that we originally set had certain limitations in product scalability. Since there are fewer categories of lion dance (only 6 kinds), the range of associated tea flavors is relatively limited. If new flavors are to be launched in the future, there may be a lack of inspiration.
The lecturer compared the scalability of noise visualization and perfume brands. The lecturer pointed out that the scalability of noise visualization is relatively limited, and it can mainly be used in record design, sound visualization websites, sound books and other fields. The product lines in these directions are relatively narrow and the market demand is relatively niche. In contrast, perfume brands have greater room for expansion, and can not only create around the perfume itself, but also create a new product.
WEEK 3
During the post-class discussion, the lecturer pointed out that we have not yet clearly defined the core goal of the brand and need to think deeply about why we want to create this brand and the true meaning of the brand's existence. It is not enough to just focus on the market gap, we need to find the core problem that the brand wants to solve.
WEEK 4
Our brand story this time is mainly about sleep fragrance. To relieve insomnia and other problems, not just perfume products, we need to draw more drafts about the brand logo and finally determine the first version. The questionnaire was released too late. In this class, we need to get the survey results instead of not releasing them yet, so we have to speed up the progress. At the same time, after the instructor's feedback, some content in the questionnaire was modified.
WEEK 5
This week, the teacher selected the final logo from our drafts, and the image of the Chinese character "云" appeared in the smoke. We did not make any other designs, but only found reference pictures, so we had to speed up the progress to complete this part.
WEEK 6
After we showed a series of yunruo products this week, the teacher gave us some suggestions:
Adjusted our logo display format to make it more integrated at first glance.
Product packaging and series extension
- Each series corresponds to an independent flavor and packaging design.
- Brand derivatives (such as moisturizing hand sanitizer, etc.) must be consistent with the main brand.
- Perfume is not suitable for this brand direction for the time being.
- The brand logo must be clearly reflected on the packaging and enhance recognition.
Material and information integrity
- All product and brand manuals must include materials, information, etc.
- Design outputs include: brand manuals, invoices, letterheads, promotional posters (POST), business cards, paper bags, fragrance test cards, etc., all of which must have a unified visual style.
Mall and offline promotional materials
- Mall promotional posters (POST) must contain key information to ensure clarity and readability.
- Brand derivative logo (unified visual system)
- The style of the fragrance test card must be consistent with the overall brand vision to strengthen the brand tone.
- The packaging must highlight the brand characteristics so that consumers can recognize it as our brand at a glance.
WEEK 7
The inner pages of our brochure were not put there. In the end, the poster still used the previous logo, and no physical product was produced.
REFLECTION
In the process of learning this course, I have gained a lot. Not only has my understanding of professional knowledge been deepened, but also my ability to turn actual projects into reality has been improved. This course covers many important areas. Starting from theoretical learning this semester, I have a more comprehensive understanding of related concepts.
First of all, I learned how to analyze and understand design/branding/packaging from different perspectives (adjusted according to the course content). Through case studies, I learned that excellent works are not accidental, but are the result of in-depth market research, precise user positioning, and continuous optimization and iteration. I also realized that behind every successful design, practicality, aesthetics, and emotional resonance must be taken into account.
In addition, I was also inspired by discussions with the group and the teacher. In the process of teamwork, I learned how to communicate effectively, divide the work, and look at problems from different perspectives.
In general, this course has provided me with a lot of learning experience and has given me a deeper understanding of (design/brand planning/market analysis, etc.). Although there are still many areas that need to be improved, I am full of expectations for future learning and practice, and hope to apply what I have learned to actual projects to further improve my professional ability.
