EXERCISE
Our first exercise is to conduct a case study on existing packaging design, focusing on its practicality, functionality, ergonomics, and conceptual ideas. Additionally, we will examine the packaging's function, form, structure, and materials. It’s also important to analyze its target audience, design elements, and how it aligns with and maintains consistency with the brand image.
I then looked up three other different products for analysis.
In this exercise, we need to pick 2 items/products that have no suitable packaging from our point of view. Once selected, we will design a new box for each item, with the goal of improving the box design for better handling, storage, protection and display of the product. The dimensions of the selected products/items need to be within 200~300mm.
The final work will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Measurement accuracy
- Construction quality
- Attention to detail
- Problem solving

REFLECTION
Experience
Overall, I benefited a lot from this course. Before, I was often curious about how packaging is designed and produced, and this course answered my questions. One of my uncles works in packaging design, so being able to go through the course to better understand the process he goes through was new and interesting for me. At the same time, it also made me appreciate the various packaging designs around me more and notice the details and creativity behind them.
Observe
During the course, I received a wealth of inspiration from observations and research on existing packaging. These observations gave me insight into the packaging process. Although I encountered some challenges at first, through dissecting the packaging I came to understand the structure and function of different packages and how they stood out in subtle but effective ways. These insights have helped me make significant progress.
Discover
This course has brought me countless benefits! From lectures to actual design and form creation, every aspect has benefited me a lot. I even incorporated what I learned into my own
thesis, further deepening my understanding of packaging design. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and explore this subject that has always interested me.
