INSTRUCTIONS

Exercise

In the exercise for Task 1, I explored several book size options and settled on a book size of 180mm x 240mm.
Final book size: 180mm x 240mm

I need to change the layout of my book cover title. In class, Mr. HIJJAZ showed me some reference pictures and how to change it. I'm more cohesive and I find more references for titles on Pinterest.

My choice of two types of text was erratic. In class feedback, Mr. HIJJAZ thought that the second type of artistic text would be more appropriate. I will try to apply this kind of writing to the content of the book.

I tried adjusting the position and found that it worked better without blocking the red lines in the painting. Slowly adjust the size of the title text.

In several places where the content text is only a short paragraph and the page is relatively empty, Mr. HIJJAZ suggested that I add drawings in the corners of the page. On this otherwise blank page extends the same texture as the drawing on the side.

Before printing the book, I made some models of the book's contents and cover so that I could see the printed form more intuitively.

FEEDBACK

Week 9

I need to change the layout of the title on my book cover. Mr. HIJJAZ showed me some reference pictures in class and showed me how to change it.

Week 10

There are a few places where the content text is only a short paragraph and the page is relatively empty. Mr. HIJJAZ suggested that I add the corner drawing of the page. Finally, each picture needs to add a link to make the drawing clearer.

RELLFECTION

Observe

When adjusting the book cover title and interior pages, I found that every detail in the design needed to be carefully weighed and tried. For example, the choice of font for the title has a great impact on the overall visual effect, and the second artistic font can better reflect the style and emotion of the book. At the same time, adjustments to position and size need to be precise to avoid interfering with other design elements such as red line painting. Adding texture to the corners of the internal pages made me realize that even the addition of small elements can significantly improve the balance and richness of the page.

Reflection

From this process, I deeply realized the importance of feedback. Mr. HIJJAZ's suggestions and reference drawings gave me a new perspective and allowed me to see the shortcomings of my previous design. On the other hand, relying too much on a single design idea can lead to monotonous visual effects, so trying different font styles and typography methods is essential. Additionally, this adjustment taught me to look at the design holistically and that the title, painting, and interior elements need to complement each other to form a cohesive piece.

Summarize

The adjusted design better reflects the theme and style of the book, and improves the overall visual appeal and consistency through font changes and layout optimization. Through this adjustment, I not only improved my work, but also learned how to listen to feedback more effectively and adjust flexibly in my design. In the future, I will pay more attention to the details and integrity of design to ensure that every element adds color to the work.

FUERTHER READING

The design elements learning in Week 6 focuses on understanding design rules and how to break them, based on Timothy Samara's design theory and book content.

Rules and Conclusions

In his work, Timothy Samara explores the importance of following principles in design and bravely breaking rules. His book content mainly discusses the following key areas:

  • In-depth understanding of color: how to convey emotions, levels and visual appeal through color matching.
  • Overview: the selection, composition and use of image techniques in design.
  • How to integrate fonts and images: design strategies that emphasize the harmony between text and visual elements.
  • Rules for making design: summarizes 20 key principles to guide designers to create excellent works that are both beautiful and practical.
