INSTRUCTIONS

EXERCISE 1

Task 2 (A) requires: to collect 28 different logos through observation and recording, and to describe and analyze them in detail according to the standards of the Module Information Booklet (MIB). This includes in-depth research and explanation of the visual elements, design features and brand concepts behind the logos.

Task 2 (A) - Research and Analysis

Task 2 (B)- Logo

Before brainstorming 3 ideas, we will follow these guidelines.

1. Your profession/business

2. What services/products do you provide?

3. How do you differentiate yourself from others? (uniqueness of profession)

4. Who would be interested in your product/service?

5. Name and rationale

We had some time in class to brainstorm and these are the ones I initially came up with.

1.Pet Store Manager

2.As a pet store manager, you are responsible for running the pet store and ensuring the health and happiness of pets. Take care of pets, provide quality pet supplies, and help customers find the right pet, clean and groom pets.

Services/products you provide

Pet sales, pet care:, pet supplies

3.The store has personal pet care, each pet has a health guarantee, and pet training is also provided.

4.New pet owners (need to buy or adopt a pet)

Pet owners who need to take care of their pets

5.Sweet pets

This name is simple and easy to remember, and conveys a warm, friendly and professional brand image.

1. Coffee Taster

2.I help coffee shops, roasters, and consumers choose better quality coffee by evaluating the quality of coffee beans through the senses (smell, touch, taste, etc.).

3.The sensory acuity of a coffee taster can accurately identify coffee flavors, defects and quality. Able to identify subtle flavor changes.

4.Some coffee brands seek to improve coffee bean quality, optimize roasting processes or develop new products.

Coffee Shop,Coffee lovers, suppliers, etc.

5.Mellow can convey that the brand offers a soft, calm, mellow experience, and can also indicate that the coffee flavor becomes richer or matures over time.

1.Travel photographer

Travel photographer bloggers can travel around the world and record natural landscapes, urban culture and humanistic cities. The works shot and videos can be used in publications, social media, commercials, or exhibited as art works.

2.Photographic works, travel photos, can be used in travel magazines, blogs, advertisements or publications.Provide customized photography services to individuals, including promotional shoots, hotel and resort photography. Sell travel photography artworks through online stores or cooperative galleries.

3.The photos taken have unique composition and light and shadow processing, which can have a strong personal style. Focus on recording the unique culture, customs and stories of each place, which is more fresh.

4.Some travel magazines, publications and galleries and art collectors who are interested in travel photography blogs and artworks.

5.Infinite TravelThe name expresses the spirit of unlimited exploration and endless discovery. "Infinite" represents the vast world and endless possibilities, while "Travel" directly conveys the theme of the photographer's work. Capture countless beautiful moments around the world.

The next steps were to create two mind maps: one focused on business structure and operations, and another specifically for the ideation and development of the brand name.

Using the above references for inspiration I made some sketches.

From more than 30 logo drafts, I selected 6 more representative logos that could reflect the theme of my coffee shop for expansion.

After everyone's evaluation in class, I finally chose the coffee cup marshmallow personification logo and the marshmallow in the coffee cup logo. I expanded the expressions to make it more vivid.

Based on feedback, I added a lot of text options.

Finally deciding on the main logo that needed to be digitized, I began my process:

Marshmallow coffee cup, tried to digitize many different emojis, the thickness of cotton can better reflect the creamy texture.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 2 30 SEPTEMBER 2024

FEEDBACK

I need my own team concept. Starbucks is too broad. It can be a handmade coffee shop, which pays more attention to the status of the brand name. Wellow is a cute and warm name. Mainly based on the brand name Mellow, I derived more ideas and re-made the brand mind map. Add the original brand ideas to the business mind map.

NEXT PLAN OF ACTION

  •  Improve the mind map

  •  Start collecting 28 logos and complete the PPT.

  •  Draw a logo sketch for the brand Mellow before next week and receive comments in class.

WEEK 3 07 OCTOBER 2024

FEEDBACK

My sketches tend to be cute, simple, and more personalised. After discussion, I chose the logo of a marshmallow snowman lying in a coffee cup, the logo of a marshmallow ball holding a coffee cup, and the logo of a marshmallow cup. Further refinement is needed.

NEXT PLAN OF ACTION

  • The next step is to further refine these sketches to make them more perfect. Add some details during the refinement process to make each design more layered visually.

  • Completed the PPT of 28 brand logos.

WEEK 4 14 OCTOBER 2024

FEEDBACK

The current font is not very suitable. I need to add some different fonts under the logo. There can be more ideas in the two selected logos. The logo of the cotton cup may be clearer. The logo of the cotton man lying in the coffee cup will be more complicated after digitization. Some modifications are needed.

NEXT PLAN OF ACTION

  • Redesign Mellow font

  • Digital logo

  • Complete 28 logo PPT

WEEK 5 21 OCTOBER 2024

FEEDBACK

This week, I digitised the marshmallow coffee cup through AI tools and tried many different emoji designs. The digitised marshmallow "hair" is more refined than the draft, and the texture can better reflect the creamy smoothness. The lecturer particularly favoured one of the designs, thinking that the version without cheeks is more concise and clean, presenting a simple visual. This is a very simple one, without any fancy words. For the font, the bubble one is more suitable. Coffee needs to make changes.

NEXT PLAN OF ACTION

  • Continue to try to digitise the l

  • ogo to make it more iconic.

  • Start making Gif animations.

WEEK 6 28 OCTOBER 2024

FEEDBACK

Black and white, inverted and coloured logos all require a separate badge without text. Add another logo with a slogan and add different brand fonts.

NEXT PLAN OF ACTION

  • Logo animation (GIF)

  • Continue to submit the logo

  • Complete blogger content

REFLECTION

Experience

In this logo design assignment, I went through the complete process from conceiving a business idea to designing the final logo. The first step in designing a logo is to clarify the business idea. During the conception process, I realized that it is not just about designing a graphic, but also involves the overall positioning and vision of the brand.

The logo design process is challenging and fulfilling. When drawing a sketch, although the initial design seems simple, the complexity increases as you go deeper, especially in making the sketch fit the brand concept. However, through repeated revisions and brainstorming, the final sketch gradually takes shape and develops in the ideal direction.

Observation and Discovery

In the early stages of design, ideas are generated relatively quickly, however, it takes more time and thinking to develop a complete business concept and how it works. Through in-depth research and brainstorming, I gradually developed the idea into an operational business model. This stage made me realize that design is not only a visual process, it also involves the understanding of business logic and market demand.

Conclusion

The process of designing a logo is not only a technical challenge, but also a comprehensive test from creativity to commercial realization. Throughout the process, I learned how to transform creative ideas into actual design results, how to use tools and resources effectively, and how to continuously improve designs through observation and research.
